SAN/GF
Overview
starex SAN/GF is a glass-fiber reinforced SAN, which can be applied to precision machine parts and structural materials that require durability and cost effectiveness. In addition, through the incorporation of glass fibers, its chemical resistance, thermal resistance, elasticity and dimensional stability have been greatly improved.
Features
1) Excellent Dimensional Stability
Having low thermal expansion coefficients and a molding shrinkage of 60% less then SAN results in excellent dimensional stability after molding.
2) High Mechanical Properties
Tensile and flexural strength is 1.5 times higher than that of SAN resin.
3) Good Heat Resistance
Heat distortion temperature(HDT) of starex SAN/GF is 105oC(1/4" bar. 18.6 kg/cm2) : similar to the level of super heat resistant ABS.
4) Excellent Moldability
Molding conditions similar to ABS make attractive products possible.
Properties
1) Mechanical
starex SAN/GF has 30~40% higher tensile and flexural strength and two times higher elasticity in comparison to SAN resin.
2) Thermal
starex SAN/GF has an excellent heat distortion temperature of 105¡É(1/4" bar. 18.6 kg/§²), which makes it suitable for use at high temperatures. But property declines may occur in long term usage with severe temperature variations. This may result from the large difference in thermal expansion coefficients between the glass fiber and SAN matrix.
3) Chemical resistance
starex SAN/GF has a chemical resistance similar to SAN resin, and the stress crack conditions are much better. But caution should be used with acid, alkali and aromatic compounds.
4) Dimensional Stability
Due to the similarity of its thermal expansion coefficient with metals, starex SAN/GF displays an excellent dimensional stability, showing less bending and deformation. Caution, however, should be used in product design because glass fiber is oriented along the direction of the injection flow, making molding shrinkage anisotropic in its flow direction and vertical directions.
