Flame Retardent HIPS
Overview
Generally, HIPS is useful in electric and electronic applications because of its excellent material properties. The materials used in electric and electronic applications must have flame retardant properties to prevent fire caused by the occurrence of electricity leakage. In addition, due to legislation regarding the use of flame retardant materials for fire safety, there has been a steadily increase in demand for flame retardant products. When dealing with plastic material for fire retardancy, the following general approaches are available: design of the basic polymers and incorporation of chemicals. Cheil Industries Inc. produces various grades of starex Flame Retardant HIPS through the advanced production technology.
Features
1) Various Grades
starex flame retardant HIPS offers various grades according to flame retardants such as PBDE, non-PBDE, or non-Halogen to meet the specific requirements of users. In addition, the excellent material properties, such as mechanical strength, flow characteristics, and heat resistance, further broaden the range of applications.
2) Excellent Melt Flow Characteristics
Melt flow characteristics are essential for easy injection molding at low temperatures, pressures and speeds. This, then, encourages the creation of complex designs for both big and thin products. The comprehensive Cheil product line includes various grades of starex Flame Retardant HIPS intended for attractively designed TV housings.
3) Thermal Stability
Having excellent heat resistance and flow characteristics, starex Flame Retardant HIPS offers an excellent thermal stability which minimizes gas flow marks and black streaks that tent to occur during the molding process.
4) Dimensional Stability
The molding shrinkage is so low that the minimization of product defects such as excessive shrinkage and warpage is possible and the dimensional stability is preserved even under continuous exposure to harsh environments.
5) Appearance
Since starex Flame Retardant HIPS is provided with good moldability, the molded parts keep glossy and discoloration is minimized due to its superior weather resistance.
6) Weather Resistance
There has been a growing demand for the use of weather resistant flame retardant grades in electrical and electronic equipment. starex Flame Retardant HIPS, with its excellent weather resistance and flame retardant, is very useful for applications requiring those characteristics.
Properties
1) Mechanical
In general, molded products may experience crack, warpage or cause various problems depending on the injection molding conditions or environmental conditions. starex Flame Retardant HIPS shows stable impact strength and flexural characteristics at high temperatures as well as at low temperatures so that proper grades may be chosen depending on the user's intentions.
2) Thermal
The excellent thermal stability of starex Flame Retardant HIPS promotes a wide range of applications. Each grade is exhibits different levels of deformation, and thus a careful selection of grade is necessary according to the environment, that is, the maximum temperature ranges of the molded product should be given great consideration.
3) Flow
starex Flame Retardant HIPS displays excellent melt flow characteristics with balanced material properties to meet the customer's needs. Such characteristics support productivity improvements and flexibility in the design process for molded products that features large sizes and complicated geometrical shapes.
4) Weather resistance
There has been a growing demand for the use of weather resistant flame retardant grades in electrical and electronic equipment. starex Flame Retardant HIPS, with its excellent weather resistance and flame retardant, is very useful for applications requiring those characteristics.
