Antimicrobial ABS
Overview
Plastic is generally thought of as being safe from corrosion and microbes decomposition. Normally, corrosion and decomposition may take place depending on its environment. Recent cases have been found with plastics used for electric cables and pipes. Microbes propagate even in household appliances. starex Antimicrobial resins, highly resistant to microbes, have been developed and marketed. 1) What is an antimicrobial resin? It is a resin that effectively prevents microbes inhabiting in plastic surfaces from propagating. Antimicrobial action stops the reproduction of microbes and the metabolism and respiration of cellular enzymes.
Function :
A. prevention of microbial propagation on a plastic surface.
B. prevention of plastic oxidation by microbes.
Features
1) Antimicrobial resin is effective on a wide range of microorganisms.
2) Antimicrobial effects are consistent.
- Stable heat resistance No changes occur at high temperatures. Moreover, even when left alone for two years
at normal temperatures, the antimicrobial effect continues.
- Chemical resistance Even when maintained for two hours at PH 2 level, changes can not be found. It is also
stable in neutral and alkaline states.
- Stable against ultraviolet rays. No changes occur even though exposed to fresh air for a long time.
3) The antimicrobial agent's stability is firm Antimicrobial material in the starex Antimicrobial ABS has proved to be stable, and so it is now being applied to food additives.
Properties
1) Mechanical
Compared to those of general resin, the basic properties of functional resin are generally lower. Nevertheless, antimicrobial resin maintains its inherent characteristics and has the same or higher property levels as general resin.
2) Thermal
Its heat distortion temperature is 88~95กษ. The property changes by molding temperature are shown. Though the mechanical properties may be comparably stable, when the molding temperature is over 250กษ heat decomposition greatly lessens its impact strength. Care is advised in keeping the molding temperature range within the limit.
