ABS/GF

Overview

starex ABS/GF, glass fiber-reinforced ABS, is an engineering plastic that features improved elasticity, modulus, thermal resistance and dimensional stability. This material is suitable for frames and precision machine tools which require high modulus and dimensional stability. starex ABS/GF is classified into a high impact grade, high modulus grade and high thermal resistant grade, and they are designed to meet the HB rating of 1/8 " in UL 94.

Features

    1) Low molding shrinkage 2-3 times lower molding shrinkage and superior dimensional stability than for general ABS.

    2) Good moldability with wide molding temperatures, especially 20-50กษ lower than those of other glass fiber reinforced resins.

    3) High strength 2-3 times higher strength than non-reinforced ones,but caution should be observed during its use because of a lower impact strength due to glass fiber.

    4) High thermal resistance 15-20กษ higher than non-reinforced ones since the glass fiber prevents heat deflection of the ABS matrix.

    5) Flame retardant All ABS/GF grades have met UL 94 flammability ratings and each ABS/GF grade achieved a 1/8 " HB rating, flame retardant ABS/GF grades also earned a 1/16 " V-0 rating. These ratings encourage wide usage of the ABS/GF resins.


Properties

1) Mechanical

    With its stable mechanical properties (tensile strength, flexural strength, flexural modulus) and superior creep properties in a wide temperature range, starex ABS/GF is ideal for frame materials under a constant load at room temperature and high temperatures(60-80กษ . While using starex ABS/GF, it is important to select a grade suitable for the intended application since increasing the glass fiber content improves tensile strength, flexural strength and flexural modulus. It also lowers impact strength, fluidity and surface smoothness.
2) Thermal

    The heat distortion temperature of starex ABS/GF is 100-150กษ similar to super heat resistant ABS, and its dimensional stability is also superior because of its small linear expansion coefficient.
